Mosquito: The World's #1 Killer
No living organism causes more human suffering than the mosquito: true in Dallas, Texas, and around the world. Mosquitoes kill more than a million people a year and infect dogs with diseases and parasites like heart worms. To humans they spread viruses like Zika, West Nile, c
, encephalitis, dengue, yellow fever, and malaria. As a child in the 1960s, my parents made us hide under blankets while driving through an infected zone in south Texas at night. Today, new viruses have made it more dangerous than ever just to relax in your own backyard. We do not recommend using synthetic pesticides or a fence-mounted misting system that laces the air with fumes. Synthetic chemicals are popular because they are profitable. It's not safe to follow the herd since popularity is fueled by enormous advertising budgets while Big Chemical bribes government agencies to rubber stamp product use. In 2017, yet another Environmental Protection Agency official was allegedly caught bragging about killing yet another EPA investigation into Monsanto's Roundup. And while that's a herbicide not an insecticide, the example serves to show how Big Chemical operates and why you should not just follow the crowd.
Safe Mosquito Treatment
Starting in 2017, we conducted hundreds of real-world tests to see what composition of essential oils worked. And today, we use a great-smelling, effective and 100% natural blend that's non-toxic to humans, pets, plants, and beneficial insects like bees, butterflies, and lady bugs.
Our essential oil products are so safe no mask or protection is needed for application nor do they require regulation by the EPA. Unlike Round Up, no government officials were bankrolled by Big Chemical to approve it. It's manufactured by a family-owned company in North Texas that specializes in non-toxic products for pest control.
Natural Mosquito Repellent
Because it is a natural preventive, for the best results it needs to be re-applied weekly. But that's okay because our entire business model is uniquely built on weekly or even daily visits. No other mosquito control service sprays daily or weekly because they can't afford to. We can save you money since we are already in your yard.
The Best Way to Stop Mosquitoes
The right combination of all-natural essential oils kills and repels pests like fleas, ticks, mosquitoes, ants, mites and more in seven ways:
NAVIGATION: They can block an insects ability to smell or navigate to sources of food (you).
DEHYDRATION: They draw moisture from insects to kill them.
DISRUPTION: They block certain pheromones and/or hormones to disrupt bodily processes like breathing. For example, cedar oil affects pheromone-driven pests like fleas and ticks by blocking a neurotransmitter unique to insects and invertebrates called octopamine (responsible for regulating heart rate, movement, and behavior in pest insects).
PENETRATION: Some, like cedar oil and orange oil dissolve the thin exoskeleton of bugs which kills them.
EMULSIFICATION: Essential oils can liquefy the fat that bugs need to live.
SUFFOCATION: Essential oils a long with compounds like molasses can causes bugs to close their breathing holes (called spiracles) which suffocates them.
NEUTRALIZATION: They neutralizes acidity within a buy's body, throwing their pH fatally out of balance.
Backyard Mosquito Control
The perception and interpretation of smell varies between species. A smell that attracts one can repel another.
For example, humans are repelled by rotting food: the smell signifies a threat. Meanwhile flies, built to consume decaying matter, are attracted. By the same token, something that smells good to us could violently repel another creature. And so it is with mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes are repelled by essential oils: the smell signifies a threat to their health. Meanwhile these oils smell good to us.
The sense of smell is so powerful it can overwhelmed even an acute sense of hunger which is why a wolf won't eat a skunk.
To a mosquito, essential oils are like a skunk's spray, more powerful than their sense of hunger.
Mosquito-Borne Diseases
Mosquitoes transmit a number of diseases to humans that can be fatal. These illnesses are caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites living in the saliva of mosquitoes. Dogs and pets are not at risk from the diseases on this list.
Chikungunya
Chikungunya is only contageous via mosquitoes. Most Texas cases of chikungunya come from travelers who were bitten by an infected mosquito in another country where the disease is more common. However, if a mosquito in Texas bites that sick person, that mosquito can then transmit the virus to her next victim. The symptoms of chikungunya start 3–7 days after being bit. Most people get better in a few days but some end up with enduring and severe joint pain. Those most at risk include newborns, seniors, and people with preexisting medical conditions like high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.
Symptoms
- Headache
- Fever
- Muscle pain
- Joint pain and swelling
- Rash
Dengue
From 2003-2017, Texas reported a total of 403 cases of dengue, most along our southern border. At this writing, seven people in Texas currently have dengue. Like chikungunya, victims usually catch it elsewhere including tropical and subtropical countries where the disease is common. Symptoms start after 4–10 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito. Most people get better in a few days, but some people can develop deadly complications especially if they've already had dengue once or twice before.
Symptoms
- High fever and at least two of the following:
- Severe headache
- Severe eye pain (behind eyes)
- Joint pain
- Muscle and/or bone pain
- Rash
- Mild bleeding manifestation (e.g., nose or gum bleed, small red spots on the skin called petechiae, or easy bruising)
- Low white blood cell count
You should go to an emergency room IMMEDIATELY if any of these warning signs show up:
- Severe abdominal pain or persistent vomiting
- Red spots or patches on the skin
- Bleeding from nose or gums
- Vomiting blood
- Black, tarry stools (feces, excrement)
- Drowsiness or irritability
- Pale, cold, or clammy skin
- Difficulty breathing
Malaria
Each year in the United States, about 1,700 people are diagnosed malaria, but most of them get it while visiting another country. Transmission of malaria within the United States is rare and there have been no recent instances of it in Texas. Dogs and cats don't catch malaria.
Symptoms
- High fever
- Shaking chills
- Muscle aches
- Tiredness
St. Louis Encephalitis
From 2003-2017, Texas reported 38 cases of SLE in humans — an average of 2.7 cases per year. Most people who have St. Louis encephalitis will experience no symptoms or a mild illness/fever. However with infants and the elderly, the illness can sometimes develop into inflammation of the brain (encephalitis) requiring hospitalization. Symptoms appear abruptly after 5–15 days. Mosquitoes themselves get the virus from biting infected birds.
Symptoms
- Fever
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Tiredness
Illness may progress to:
- Stiff Neck
- Confusion
- Disorientation
- Dizziness
- Tremors
- Coma
West Nile Virus
From 2002-2017, a total of 5,412 human WNV disease cases were reported in Texas, which is 361 cases per year on average. Each year there are confirmed cases of humans catching West Nile Virus in Dallas County. Also, mosquitoes have been captured that tested positive for the disease in Dallas.
Most people who catch WNV from mosquitoes do not notice any symptoms while about 20% will develop a fever and other symptoms. A very small percentage of people can develop a serious neurological illness which is sometimes fatal. West Nile Virus can cause febrile illness, encephalitis (inflammation of the brain), or meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord). Dallas residents who are over 60 years of age are at the greatest risk for the severe version of the disease plus people with cancer, diabetes, hypertension, kidney disease, and patients who have received organ transplants. Recovery from severe symptoms can require several weeks or months. Some of the effects can even be permanent.
Symptoms
- Fever
- Headache
- Body aches
- Rash on the trunk of the body
- Swollen lymph glands
Of those who come down with the full neurological infection from West Nile virus, about 1 in 10 cases can be fatal. The more serious form of WNV includes these symptoms:
- Headache
- High fever
- Stiff neck
- Stupor/disorientation
- Tremors
- Convulsions
- Muscle weakness
- Paralysis
- Coma
Zika
During 2016, Texas reported 315 cases of Zika. That dropped to 55 in 2017 and only 4 in 2018. Because mothers can pass Zika to her unborn child with resulting birth defects, potential parents should do everything possible to avoid being bitten by a mosquito. Sgt. Poopers can help by spraying your immediate yard weekly to kill and repel mosquitoes in your front and back yards, plus around every door where mosquitoes may congregate or slip inside your home.
Most people with Zika don’t have any symptoms. However, people who don’t develop symptoms can still pass the virus to others. If a person does have symptoms, they are usually mild and last several days to a week. Men can potentially transmit Zika virus to their sexual partners for up to 3 months after infection.
Symptoms
- Joint pain
- Conjunctivitis (red eyes)
- Fever
- Rash (often itchy)
