Gym Disinfection Introduction
Sgt. Poopers Eradicates the Germs That Infect Everything we Touch in Gyms
Sgt. Poopers Conservation Rangers can liberate gym employees and members from the bane of infectious diseases by destroying the invisible pathogens that blanket the everyday world we touch. Our weekly gym disinfection service destroys trillions of environmental pathogens room by room with a 99.999% rate of success. Sgt. Poopers has effectively pioneered one of the world's most effective 360° surface disinfection systems for touchless whole-room microbial decontamination.
In the past, building disinfection was so expensive few could afford it with prices at $1.00 to $3.00 per square foot. That means a 10,000 sq ft gym would cost $10,000 to $30,000 to disinfect! Our price for a 10,000 sq ft gym would be just $200.
Our non-toxic hospital-grade disinfectant is EPA-registered in all 50 states, NSF rated as "No Rinse Required" on food contact surfaces even at full strength, hypo allergenic, pH balanced, odorless with no offensive odor, no perfume, no fragrance, no taste. It is non-irritating to skin, non-corrosive and non-reactive so it is safe on treated articles including walls, floors, carpeting, exercise equipment, free weights, yoga mats, fabrics, natural stones, granite, marble, tile, plastics, furniture, wood, countertops and faucets, plus electronic equipment like phones, keyboards, laptops, computers and monitors. Application does not require gloves or respirators; and it emits no volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It's even listed by the CDC for use against bacteria, viruses... even Ebola and antibiotic-resistant "superbugs" like MRSA and HAPI.
As a bonus, our process also kills and prevents spores from mold and mildew for up to seven months, breaks down and eliminates allergens from pet dander as well as dust mite and cockroach allergens. It also deodorizes since odors are caused by bacteria.

Illnesses are Spread via "Touch Points"
Dangerous viruses and bacteria are spread by human hands via "touch points" including exercise equipment, dumbbells, weight machines, door handles, faucets, desks, countertops, keyboards, elevator buttons, stair rails, and tabletops. Germs are also brought inside on the bottoms of shoes and feet. When we cross paths with a disease carrier, or share our gym space with someone who is ill, even our best efforts to remain healthy can be challenged. How can one person combat trillions of bacteria on surfaces at the gym, day by day, year in and year out? According to CDC,
• Absenteeism costs $1,685 per employee each year
• Productivity losses linked to absenteeism cost employers $225.8 billion
• 722,000 Hospital Acquired Infections (HAIs) are reported each year
If you want to know what touch-point infection is, consider that today Hospital-Acquired Infections (HAIs) are the most common complication from hospital care resulting in 75,000 deaths per year. HAIs are diseases contracted directly from healthcare facilities. HAIs are easily spread in clinical settings through contaminated surfaces including door handles, vending machines, elevator buttons, bed railings, TV remotes, and call buttons.
Another result of neglected surface management is that 5% to 20% of the US population comes down with the flu each year. Tens of thousands must be hospitalized and thousands die from flu-related complications each year (a higher death toll than from car accidents). The flu virus costs an estimated $10.4 billion a year in direct medical expenses and an additional $16.3 billion in lost earnings annually.
The Problem of Cross Contamination
The traditional "spray and wipe" cleaning methods make matters worse by spreading germs from each piece of gym equipment onto every other piece of equipment via a rag or sponge. If one person brings germs into the gym, those germs can be spread everywhere when surfaces are wiped down. Trillions of pathogens can be deposited on all sides of objects like doors, handles, knobs, and faucets. The chain reaction of infection reaches critical mass whenever microbes inevitably take up permanent residence on objects.
Destroying Biofilm, the Crucial Difference
Microbes live in a slimy defensive communal structure called "biofilm" which they exude themselves. Biofilm makes bacteria 1,000 times more resistant to antimicrobials. According to the National Institutes of Health, biofilms cause as much as 65% of all microbial infections. The toxins they secrete cause all manner of inflammation and chronic disease. Lung disease, heart disease, bone disease. Diseases of the joins, kidneys, intestines. Even Toxic Shock Syndrome is caused by biofilm. The list is long!
These microscopic biofilm bunkers fully protect the living bacteria against cleaning products and most disinfectants, too, which is why they say they kill "on contact." If a cleaner can't penetrate biofilm, no harm is done to the bacteria. All bacteria create these kinds of biofilm structures. The disinfectant we use penetrates biofilm so kills 99.999% of bacteria and viruses, period. No strings, disclaimers, qualifying statements like "on contact," no excuses!
This shows up the difference between cleaning and disinfecting. They are not the same thing at all. Cleaning, which usually comes first, is to remove visible grime, dirt and oils. Disinfection kills the living bacteria and viruses that remain on surfaces. As University of Illinois food science and human nutrition professor, Scott Martin, explains,
"Once the pathogenic organism gets on the product, no amount of washing will remove it. The microbes attach to the surface of produce in a sticky biofilm, and washing just isn’t very effective.”
For the first time, scientists are beginning to understand the actual nature of bacteria and why cleaning alone does not kill or remove bacteria. Traditional disinfectants and cleaning products do not remove or kill bacteria encased in biofilm. Sgt. Poopers uses a new-generation disinfectant that oxidizes bacteria (meaning it chemically combines with molecules in the cellular walls of bacteria causing the cell to rupture and the organism to die). Our EPA-approved, CDC-listed, NSF-certified, no-rinse food-grade hospital disinfectant penetrates biofilm to kill 99.999% of germs in less than 60 seconds.
Resetting the Pathogen Count on Surfaces
Our cutting-edge spray system gives an electric charge to each spray droplet as it leaves the nozzle. These charged droplets act like tiny magnets with a force stronger than gravity to evenly coat all sides of any object within the spray plume. The process achieves uniform surface coverage on all sides — that's 360° — of every object in the room including front, sides and back of every handle, faucet, chair, seat, stair rail, and button. In minutes, Sgt. Poopers can sterilize every surface in an entire room resetting the pathogen count to very near zero.
Today, Sgt. Poopers can regularly disinfect your entire gym for just 2¢ a square foot — daily, weekly, biweekly, or monthly.
In the past, building disinfection was so expensive few could afford it with prices at $1.00 to $3.00 per square foot. That means a 10,000 sq ft gym would cost $10,000 to $30,000 to disinfect. Our price for a 10,000 sq ft gym would be just $200.
Imagine — in the room you're sitting in right now, every surface is loaded with germs protected by biofilm. Would you not pay 2¢ per square foot to have that room made germ-free? In minutes, our protocol kills up to 99.999% of all harmful bacteria on exposed surfaces in an entire room! But it gets even better...
Up to 99.999% effective against contamination by,
- Cold Virus
- Flu Virus
- Fecal coliform
- And more
Gym Odor Removal
Our non-toxic, pet-friendly, hypoallergenic disinfectant leaves each room smelling great (fresh). It contains no artificial fragrances, perfumes or scents. It is non-reactive, non-caustic, non-corrosive, non-flammable, non-fuming, and non-staining.
It is EPA-registered, CDC listed, and NSF certified as "No Rinse Required" on food preparation surfaces. So you can spray it on your chopping block and countertops and there is no need to even rinse it off. No gloves or respirators are required for application. It is safe.
What causes bad odors? Do you know? The actual cause of bad odors is bacteria. Room "fresheners" and sprays do not work because their artificial fragrances, perfumes and scents do not kill the bacteria.
By destroying 99.999% of all bacteria on all exposed surfaces in an entire gym there is nothing left to smell bad. Call us in after the place has been cleaned. We will disinfect and deodorize the entire space and get rid of odors room by room.
How Gym Disinfection works
Charged particles emitted by our spray system blanket every exposed side of every surface in a room to eradicate up to 99.999% of live pathogens. As a result, our protocols significantly reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses reducing the spread of illness and significantly reducing sick days.
An "electrostatic" charge is a fixed charge placed on or in an object whether large or small. For example, when you rub a balloon in your hair, you are applying a "static" or fixed charge of electricity to the balloon. A static charge is one that cannot flow like electricity in a wire; consequently, the balloon becomes a magnet that will stick to surfaces like the wall. If you had a thousand charged balloons and let them go in a room, and sprayed them toward a wall, they'd cover every exposed section of the wall exactly one balloon deep. That is called uniform coverage.
Our tiny spray droplets behave in exactly the same fashion, enabling them to stick to all exposed surfaces like tiny magnets. Moreover, the attraction from the static charge is stronger than the force of gravity! The volume of charge is low so these droplets will not affect any electronic equipment. Our sprayers can be set to apply droplets of three sizes 20, 40 or 80 microns. Precise coverage is achieved since droplets are only attracted to spots where a previous particle has not already landed.
Case History: How Ebola was Stopped in Dallas In 2014
If you lived in Dallas in 2014, you no doubt remember the terror when deadly Ebola was brought into our midst. Today we use the same disinfectant and same electrostatic delivery technology used to STOP the unfolding catastrophe in Dallas and STOP the spread of Ebola.
It was September 30, 2014 when Thomas Eric Duncan (45) arrived at Dallas’ Presbyterian Hospital and was diagnosed with Ebola. He had come to Dallas to visit family, departing Liberia just days before. At that time, Liberia was experiencing a full-on Ebola outbreak. Massive numbers of people were dying grisly deaths and Mr. Duncan was exposed to the virus before he left.
Little was known about this rare disease at the time and Texas medical professionals were caught off guard. Ebola, is a "viral hemorrhagic fever" which means it so damages tissues that capillaries begin to leak. Indications of the disease are not visible until two days to three weeks after exposure. First-stage symptoms are headaches, fever, painful throat and muscles. The next stage brings violent vomiting, diarrhea and rash. The disease progresses rapidly and damages the liver and kidneys. Blood vessels starts to bleed out highly infectious blood both internally and externally. At this point the chances of death are likely.
By October 4, Mr. Duncan's condition had deteriorated to "critical" and four days later, he perished. With blinding speed, the outbreak spread to the nurses who cared for him. With approximately six degrees of separation between any two people, the likelihood of getting infected begin to soar. And then it all came to a crashing halt.
What stopped it? The same disinfectant we use delivered by an electrostatic spray system exactly like we use today in your gym. And if it can stop Ebola, just think how much easier it is to stop the common cold or the flu?
I worked for the Ft. Worth company that designed the electrostatic sprayers that you would have seen on the news at the time. Their system was primitive at the time, but it still worked. That's where and when I learned about the disinfectant and delivery technology. And that's why we can provide the same hospital-grade non-toxic disinfectant to reset the pathogen count in your place of business.
At only 2¢ per square foot for regularly scheduled services, our disinfecting protocols are much cheaper than getting sick! For the price of one doctor visit plus medicine, we can disinfect your entire gym and help reduce your staff and members chance of getting sick.
The Science Behind Uniform 360° Coverage
Electrostatic spray systems have been used for years in automotive painting and agricultural industries to ensure precise and uniform coverage. In our case our hospital-grade EPA-Registered disinfectant is atomized under high-pressure and simultaneously charged at the nozzle by a built in electrode. If you were to touch the metal nozzle while spraying, you'd receive a most unpleasant electric shock! An electrostatic charge is given to each droplet so that the entire spray plume adheres as if it were magnetized. Droplets are repelled from each other, but attracted to every square millimeter on any surface in the immediate environment. The result is consistent, even coverage with no gaps.
Consistent coverage is achieved because opposite charges attract. Once a particle lands in a designated spot, the charge is reversed so it then repels further particles. This force of attraction is stronger than gravity and stronger than the force of inertia propelling the particles forward, so particles are actually able to reverse direction and adhere to the backs and sides of objects, not just the front. With coverage literally wrapping around each object, consistent coverage is attained and no germ is left untouched.
The magnetically-charged spray plume "paints" all sides of every object in the room, even many hidden areas that would be impossible to reach with traditional methods. Within seconds, all exposed surfaces in an entire room can be sterilized!
Where Germs are Hiding in Your Gym
Surface contamination is detected by measuring a substance called ATP, found only in the presence of living cells. The amount of ATP, or adenosine triphosphate, shows whether the surface is really sanitary or not.
While an ATP measurement of just 31 or higher is considered a “FAIL” in the food production industry, ordinary objects with an ATP count of 300 or more are considered to have a high risk for illness transmission and a high-level of dangerous microorganisms. Studies have been done and they have routinely found high levels of dangerous microorganisms on obvious places like gym equipment, water fountains, dumbbells, yoga mats, cell phones, door handles, stair rails, TV remotes, computer mouses plus,
- 75% of sink faucets
- 71% of gas pump handles
- 68% of mailbox handles
- 67% of shopping cart handles
- 48% of microwave door handles
- 43% of escalator rails
- 41% of ATM machine buttons
- 40% of parking meters and parking lot machines
- 35% of vending machine buttons
- 35% of crosswalk buttons
- 27% of computer keyboards
- 26% of refrigerator handles
- 23% of water fountain buttons
These kinds of surfaces are easily decontaminated in seconds using Sgt. Poopers touch-free electrostatic disinfecting protocol. You can even place your cell phone on the counter and we will disinfect it, too at no extra charge.
Forensic Inspection with Ultraviolet Light
As an added layer of protection against pathogens in gyms, Sgt. Poopers can provide forensic inspection using high-intensity ultraviolet light to reveal sources of bio-contamination invisible to the naked eye. These biological residues are in places you'd never expect. These substances contain molecules that will fluoresce under ultraviolet light.
The inspection process requires a degree of darkness, usually possible by turning off lights and closing drapes. It also requires special eye protection which we will provide. This inspection will show you where many germs are hiding. In the kitchen you will see spills on cabinets, and splatters on the stove that you thought had been "cleaned." Cleaning is just not very good at removing biofilm.
Forensic ultraviolet detection is for your gym, offices, bathrooms, and workout areas. Then we kill those germs with our non-toxic EPA-approved disinfectant.

Liabilities of Traditional Disinfectants
Many substances commonly used as disinfectants are not actually registered as such by the EPA. Some substances are also dangerous.
- Bleach: Hazardous to humans, wildlife and the environment. Linked to respiratory problems and birth defects.
- Ammonia: Not classified as a disinfectant by the EPA. Not effective against dangerous bacteria like staphylococcus.
- Vinegar: Not a registered disinfectant and does not kill dangerous bacteria like staphylococcus.
- Baking soda: Too weak to kill most bacteria, including salmonella, E. coli. and staphylococcus.
- Tea tree oil: Not effective against powerful viruses and bacteria.
- Antibacterial soap: No more effective than regular soap. The popular ingredient triclosan disrupts endocrine system. Creates deadly antibiotic-resistant superbugs.
- Alcohol-based hand sanitizers: Claims of effectiveness NOT supported by the FDA. Ineffective against norovirus according to CDC.
- Hydrogen peroxide: Unsafe in concentrations greater than 3 percent.
